Satellite TV Broadcasts at Forefront of Hezbollah-Related Arrest

A Staten Island man was arrested this week on charges of providing people with satellite transmissions of the Hezbollah-controlled TV station “Al Manar,” which translates from Arabic as “The Beacon.” For years, Javed Iqbal has operated a small business (called HDTV Ltd.) out of his home and storefront that provides viewers with access to channels from around the globe, broadcast in high definition. But as of late, thanks to info from Mark Dubowitz, the head of the Coalition Against Terrorist Media, authorities have become aware of the inclusion of Al Manar in Iqbal programming packages. While the channel can be seen for free on the internet, it is illegal to broadcast it via satellite.

Many are concerned about implications the arrest will have for general broadcasting rights. Click here for the full story.
