GPS Buyer’s Guide

USA Today recently published a very helpful article by Kim Komando that offers list of basic features to consider when shopping for a GPS unit.

Here’s a summary of her list. For the full article, click here.

1) Portability; You should decide on this based upon how many cars you plan on using the unit for.
2) Display; This is both an asethetic preference and safety issue. Consider where you plan on putting the unit.
3) Maps; Check the method, recommended regularity, and cost of updates.
4) Directions; Text-in-speech units are generally preferable to regular models, as the former provide you with verbally given street names as well as directions.
5) Software; You may not even need to buy a full GPS unit but can simply install GPS-type software onto your PDA, Windows Mobile smart phone, or laptop.
