Google AdWords Customers Will Soon be able to Advertise on XM
Due to a deal announced yesterday, Google will now be able to offer its advertising customers the ability to extend their messages to XM radio’s seven million-plus subscribers. Through the use of the recently purchased dmarc system, Google will able to offer its clients the ability to track and purchase ads with never-before-dreamed-of efficiency.
These adds will, of course, only run on XM’s non-music stations, as a major component of their subscription service is commercial-free music. Even so, the deal is expected to provide XM with a much-needed revenue boost, as the company has incurred heavy losses as of late due to aggressive marketing. See Reuters for the full story.
ZDnet has pointed out that the deal may point to a growing trend in advertising: total personalization. After all, Google has expressed interest in eventually creating a GPS-fueled personalized advertising market.
Sounds like a great idea. I just hope they don’t turn my affinity for Hello Kitty merchandise into public knowledge. Stay tuned.
