Good News: XM Mini-Tuner Will be Backwards Compatible with Connect-and-Play
In addition to changing the name of its soon-to-be-released portable tuner from the “Passport” to the “Mini-Tuner,” it appears that XM is also wisely making the device compatible with all previously released Connect-and-Play equipment. All XM ready products will be able to receive the satellite signal from the Mini-Tuner.
The combination of this and the rumored to be very affordable price tag (around 30 bucks) should make the Mini-Tuner attractive to both current and new XM subscribers. I expect this product to be a big hit for XM, as several other upcoming non-satellite radio products will also be Mini-Tuner compatible, which should attract new subscribers who are looking to give XM a try without having to buy pricey new equipment.
Thanks to Orbitcast for the scoop.
