Samsung Releases New Satellite TV Phone

You would expect a phone that only weighs 100 grams and is only 13.5 millimeters thick to be a stripped-down, essentially featureless example of the most pragmatic trends in consumer electronics. The recently released Samsung SCH-B500, however, is not only this small but also has all the features that are becoming increasingly standard on top-shelf phones (a 2.0 megapixel digital camera, an MP3 player, hi-res display, etc.), as well as (most excitingly) a satellite TV and radio receiver.

Unfortunately for us, as of now, the phone will only be available in South Korea. But, as we all know, that fact that phones with these capabilities even exist means that they will find their ways into American stores sooner or later. Apparently, the satellite digital mobile phone broadcasting (S-DMB) signal is provided only locally by a Korean-based company, thus limiting the range of this feature.

We will keep you posted as to further developments in this technology, especially in regards to its introduction into American markets.
