Oprah on XM!
Oprah Winfrey will be debuting her own satellite radio channel on XM in September. The Anti-Stern???
[Oprah] has signed a three-year, $55 million deal with Washington-based XM Satellite Radio.
It calls for launch of a new radio channel named “Oprah and Friends” beginning in September.
The channel is to provide programs on fitness, health and self-improvement topics with personalities that appear on Winfrey’s television show, as well as in the celebrity’s magazine.
It will also feature a weekly radio show with Winfrey and Gayle King. A joint statement said the channel will originate from a new studio in Chicago.
Interesting point: Oprah, $55m. Howard, $500m plus stock options plus incentives. Is Howard 10X the man that Oprah is? Will he draw 10X the listeners? This is huge for XM, and a very wise investment. This move also expands the Oprah Media Empire into new grounds, satellite radio. Both parties seem to be planning for their futures.
