Know Your Satellite Radio Receiver Pt. 4: XM Roady XT
I know your excited for part 4 of our series on satellite radio receivers. Today we’re going to be talking about one of XM’s most popular units, the XM Roady XT portable receiver.
Mind you, the Roady XT is not a “true” portable receiver. It has no internal power source; you can’t listen to it without its base or car kit. You can listen to it in your home, car, or office however, hence “portable.” And, for the price, it is a spectacular unit.
Typically, it gets better reception than most XM receivers. It does not have a rewind/replay feature, but it has a number of other cool functions such as a dedicated “jump” button that can bring you back to previous channels and FM frequencies and a “tuneselect” function that lets you search the airwaves for songs, artists etc. One other great feature of the Roady XT is its sports/stocks ticker, which can be set to constantly update any number of sports teams or stocks.
You can find this unit for under $30 after rebate (or occasionally for free under certain promotions). Bottom line: It is a great, versatile unit with a lot of functions and a price so low that XM should be hit with an anti-trust suit.
