Anti-Osama uses satellite TV as vehicle
Extensive article in the Sydney Morning Herald about Amr, Islam’s “anti-bin Laden.” Focus on Amr’s messages and his role in the future of Islam, but what I found interesting was how he reaches his audience:
His vehicle is satellite TV and it has allowed him to penetrate the borders of not just every Arab country, but every country where Muslims live, including Australia. His television program, Life Makers, which is produced by ART satellite-TV network, has spawned the Amr Khaled website, translated into English, French, German, Italian and five other languages.
If they’re reaching folks in Australia, you know they’ve got decent coverage. This shows the importance of expanding communication in the 21st century. TV is important as ever, and with satellite it’s more accessable than ever before. Muslims all over the world are tuning in to Amr’s messages (you can read the article yourself if you want to find out what the “anti-Osama” is saying. This ain’t a political forum after all), and it’s making an impact.
