Two American satellite radio companies now set to broadcast in Canda, XM/CSR joins Sirius Canada

There has been a lively debate raging in Canada for months now on the issue of American satellite radio companies. Should they be allowed to broadcast to Canada, or no? Sirius has already made some headway with their Sirius Canada branch.

Now XM’s partner, CSR (Canadian Satellite Radio) has won regulatory approval.

We are very pleased by the Federal Cabinet’s decision,” said Hugh Panero, President and CEO of XM Satellite Radio. “We look forward to working with our Canadian partner CSR to provide Canadians with the world-class programming and leading-edge technology that have made XM Satellite Radio the industry leader and one of the fastest-growing consumer electronics products ever.”

This is a marked change from the deadlock of previous months where Canadian terrestrial radio stations as well as cultural institutions have pitted themselves against American broadcast giants and auto manufactures.

Bottom line: your culture will inevitably be assimilated by America. Resistance is futile.
