Samsung unveils Satellite TV Phone and portable media device
Ever want to watch satellite TV anywhere in the world on a cool, portable device? Us too! Ever want to watch satellite TV on a 2 inch diagonal screen? Us neither!
Nevertheless, the Samsung B250 packs some amazing technology. It’s a flip phone with a larger-than-average-for-a-phone sized LCD display, and it receives Satellite signals besides being a 2 megapixel camera and more.
The thing is $700, however, and available only in Korea.
If larger is more your style, Samsung has another trick up their sleeve: The new, portable YM-PD1, which plays mp3, receives satellite signal, and packs a 30gb hard drive.
The YM-PD1 has a 4-inch TFT (thin film transistor) LCD (liquid crystal display) and can be used to watch movies or listen to music stored on the internal 30G-byte hard drive, Samsung said. The device can also be used to watch DMB satellite broadcasts and comes equipped with a TV-out option, it said.
Additional details of the device, including pricing and availability, were not immediately available.
DMB is a version of the DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) technology used for radio broadcasts in Europe. It allows portable devices equipped with a very small antenna to receive television signals broadcast over a satellite link. The technology is backed by Samsung and LG Electronics Inc., among others, as a standard for satellite broadcasting to handheld devices.
Man, Samsung just has their hands all over everything, don’t they? The portable satellite TV receiver seems like great technology. Why not put it in a slightly larger portable TV? I may be interested in an 10″ version…

We reported on the phenomenon of South Korean Sat TV phones before, but the new model from LG is special. Not only does it recieve satellite TV broadcasts, but you can pause your program if, say, a call comes in. [...]
