EchoStar Income Soars
As DirecTV lays off 36 people as a result of poor subscriber growth, DISH Network reports that its income is soaring - the satellite network’s second-quarter profits rose to $856 million, a jump of 907 percent from the last year’s second-quarter profits of $85 million. DISH Network added about 225,000 new subscribers during that time, about the same as DirecTV. And shareholders are still optimistic - they’re banking on the analog cable subscribers who still haven’t jumped to satellite.
