WildBlue is “Top Notch”

Starting July 1st, the re-tooled WildBlue satellite Internet service will relaunch in the contiguous 48 states, and apparently it’s the real deal. Beta testers have said that they’re browsing the Internet at speeds like 1.5 Mbps, making WildBlue as fast as cable or DSL. It’s a great improvement from sluggish satellite Internet services like Direcway, but it’s still expensive - the equipment and installation are $299, and services ranges from $49.95 to $79.95, depending on how fast you want to go (you’ll need the $79.95 for DSL speeds). It also seems that, at least while in testing, the service is capable of reaching almost 4.5 Mbps, but that’s expected to change once the service rolls out.
