Space Systems/Loral to Build XM-5 Satellite
XM Radio announced a contract with Space Systems/Loral to construct the new XM-5 satellite. Competition was strong, but XM decided to depart from Boeing Satellite Systems, who constructed XM’s first four satellites, in order to provide the highest quality in XM service. To be completed in 2007, XM-5 will be XM radio’s fifth satellite, functioning as the ground spare of XM’s in-orbit fleet.
